Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide modeled on epithalamin, a natural substance from the pineal gland. Developed by Russian researcher Vladimir Khavinson, it's one of the most discussed 'longevity' peptides.
It is not FDA-approved and is sold as a research chemical; the science, while decades old, is concentrated in one research lineage.
Two effects are proposed: activation of telomerase (the enzyme that maintains telomeres, the protective caps on chromosomes that shorten with age) and restoration of pineal function to normalize melatonin secretion and circadian rhythm.
There's in-vitro evidence of telomerase activation and telomere elongation in human cells, rodent studies reporting lifespan extension and reduced tumors, and long-term Russian cohort work associating use with better markers and lower mortality. Independent Western replication is scarce, so quality is limited.
Reported improvements in sleep quality and a general 'systemic anti-aging' feeling; the telomere/longevity rationale and a long (if narrow) research history drive strong interest.
Generally described as well tolerated in the available studies.
Human evidence is limited and concentrated in one research group. Telomerase activation raises a theoretical cancer concern (though studies reported fewer tumors, not more).
Long-term safety isn't established by modern standards, and gray-market purity is a concern.
